On a Long Road to the West
BARUCH COLLEGE, NEW YORK, NY (6/10/03)—Cem Ozdemir, Germany’s first elected parliamentarian of Turkish ancestry and currently a Transatlantic Fellow at the German Marshall Fund in Washington, D.C., will present a speech on comparative minority political organization on Tuesday, June 17 in the Newman Conference Center, 151 East 25th Street, 7th Floor. A brief reception beginning at 5:30 PM will precede the talk.
Ozdemir, a member of the Green Party and respected voice on immigration and integration policy in Germany, joined the Bundestag in 1994 and was reelected in 1998. During his tenure in the German Parliament, he became a strong advocate for the reform of Germany’s stringent naturalization laws, which prevented the children of immigrant parents from claiming German citizenship.
“On a Long Road to the West” is sponsored by the School of Public Affairs. Please RSVP at 212-802-5735 or send an e-mail message to firstname.lastname@example.org.
