New York, NY – July 24, 2007—Baruch College alumna Kanika Jefferies (MPA ’06, National Urban Fellows Program) has been appointed to the position of New York State’s public intern in the Office of Mental Health.

“The competition for the position was stiff, the Public Management Institute (PMI) attracts talented individuals from graduate schools across the country,” said Erika M. Bacher, director of PMI. “The appointment reflects the excellent preparation Baruch provides to its students.”

This is a full-time, paid internship, which leads to a full-time position in state government. Interns serve within a state agency and participate in rotational assignments, a mentoring program for professional guidance, and specialized training to complement their on-the-job learning. For over 60 years, New York State’s Public Management Institute has served as an important vehicle for bringing individuals with the capacity for inspired leadership to careers in New York State government.
