During this year’s Baruch College Community Reception, held on Tuesday, December 7th, President Mitchel B. Wallerstein presented Council Member Rosie Mendez with the "Legislator of the Year" Award and the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District with the "Community Partner of the Year" award. The event also provided an opportunity to introduce President Wallerstein, who joined the college in August, to local community and business leaders.

Over 100 people attended the event, including representatives from Manhattan Community Board 6, the 23rd Street Association, the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, the Gramercy Neighborhood Associates, the Madison Square Park Conservancy, Repertorio Espanol, staff of the Flatiron BID, among others. Members of the President’s Cabinet also attended and had the opportunity to talk with area leaders.

Council Member Mendez was honored with an award worded "In recognition of your unwavering support of Baruch College and your steadfast commitment to public higher education and the City University of New York. Your dedicated advocacy continues to make vital contributions to our school and our students." President Wallerstein further noted that Mendez "has been a great friend to Baruch College since taking office in 2006. She has supported several campus capital and programmatic initiatives and helped us alter traffic patterns around campus to improve pedestrian safety for the college and the community. She has also been generous with her time to the student body, providing important guidance to our future leaders at various events."

The Flatiron BID was also awarded, as noted, "in appreciation of our long-standing and successful partnership that has enhanced the quality of life for the local business community and the students, faculty, and staff of Baruch College." The President also noted that "the BID has been an active supporter of Baruch College for years. Recently they have partnered with us to host very successful small business forums and we look forward to working closely with them in the years to come."
