WASSERMAN TRADING FLOOR / SUBOTNICK CENTER TO HOST TRAINING EVENT FOR TOP STUDENT INTERNS
May 24 – 26, 2006 at Baruch College
New York, NY, May 18, 2006 – The Wasserman Trading Floor / Subotnick Financial Services Center will host a three-day training event May 24 – 26 for 72 Sales & Trading student interns who were granted internships by the Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) Career Program. This marks the second year Baruch has supported SEO with training.
Established in 1980, The SEO Career Program helps high achieving minority students reach their career goals by providing internships in challenging fields, including information technology, corporate law, asset management, and philanthropy. Investment Banking interns are grouped into areas of Sales and Trading, Research, and Corporate Finance. This year the program recruited a total of 403 top minority students into their summer internship program from 118 different universities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Major financial services firms in New York City participate in the program by hosting interns. Over eighty-percent of interns later receive full-time job offers from their host company or partner firms. Baruch students granted internships through SEO this year are Maria Giraldo (UBS), Arvind Jagarnath (JP Morgan), Andrew Jozefiak (Merrill Lynch), Luis Romero (Bank of America Securities), Jodi-Ann Neslon (Merrill Lynch), and Harbani Rana (Credit Suisse). Luis Romero will take part in the Sales and Trading weekend training at the Subotnick Center. Other companies hosting SEO interns are Barclays, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Lazard, Lehman Brothers, and Morgan Stanley.
“We are happy to have the partnership of Baruch College for our Career Program,” says Prakash Venkataraman, senior program manager at SEO. “The Subotnick Center is an excellent place to train, and we see the results. Our partner firms are very pleased with the performance of Baruch’s students.”
Richard Holowczak, director of the Wasserman Trading Floor / Subotnick Center, compared this year’s training to last year’s efforts, saying: “The SEO students are simply the brightest and most energetic group I have had the pleasure of teaching. I expect this year we will push the envelope even further, using the unique resources we have on the Wasserman Trading Floor.”
Instruction at the Subotnick Center will be given by Baruch professors Richard Holowczak and Bernard Donefer, and includes simulated trading exercises, lectures on fixed income, equities, and derivatives, and training on Reuters and Bloomberg terminals. Sylvester McClearn, managing director, Equities Institutional Investor Group, Citigroup, is to be one of several guest speakers.
