School of Public Affairs Professor Robert Smith is a featured panelist on “Feet in Two Worlds: Immigrants in the Global City,” a radio documentary on New York’s ethnic communities scheduled to air on WNYC radio May 20, 21, and 22. Smith, a expert on New York’s Mexican-Americans, is one of several panelists providing stories of New York’s growing population of transnationals, who (unlike older generations of immigrants), can use cell phones, the Internet and cheap airfares to remain in constant contact with their home countries.

Hosted by Pulitzer-Prize winning author Frank McCourt (Angela’s Ashes), the program airs at the following times: Friday, May 20: 3-4 pm on 93.9 FM, Friday May 20: 9-10 pm on AM 820, Saturday May 21: 4-5 pm on AM 820 and Sunday, May 22: 6-7 pm on 93.9 FM. A public forum with Prof. Smith was held on May 10 in conjunction with the release of the documentary and broadcast on The Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC on Wednesday, May 11. The “Feet in Two Worlds” project is part of Think Global, a Public Radio Collaboration supported by the Ford Foundation, the Surdna Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
