On Friday, March 3, the women's basketball team made history at the first round of the 2006 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship in Newburgh, New York.

The Bearcats upset one of the favorites, Mount Saint Mary College (66-64), to win their first-ever game in a NCAA Tournament. Not only was it their first win, but they also earned the distinction of becoming the first CUNY women's basketball team ever to win an NCAA game.

Junior Ally Stamatiades led all scorers in the historic victory with 22 points, while the senior duo of Diane Ramirez and Jessenia Marrero finished their illustrious playing careers with 21 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists combined.

"We came out of the locker room on fire, despite playing on their home court in front of their fans," said Head Coach Machli Joseph. "We took the action to them, never lost our poise when they attempted a comeback, and held on for a great victory. It is hard to put into words what this victory means to our team and the athletic department."

The Bearcats advanced to the second round on Saturday, March 4, to play Bridgewater College of Virginia, but lost 72-49 in a game that was played just 19 hours after the Mount Saint Mary victory. Baruch once trailed by only six points in the second half, but Bridgewater's depth and torrid shooting down the final stretch of the game ended Baruch's dream for a prestigious spot in the “Sweet 16” round. The women's team finished the season with a team record of 23 wins against seven losses.

The men's basketball team, making its second appearance at a NCAA Basketball Championship, hosted the Mustangs of Villa Julie College in the ARC Arena on Friday. Though ultimately losing 86-71, the Bearcats were led by Senior guard Robi Davidson, scoring a team-high 19 points and grabbing four boards. Senior Cheick Fadika finished his brilliant playing career with 18 points, six rebounds, and one block. The men's team finished their season with 23 wins against six losses.
