NEW YORK, NY September 12, 2012 In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, recognized from September 15 October 15, the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature at the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences will present a panel discussion of distinguished Latina businesswomen and Baruch alumnae from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 1.
Featured panelists will include Sophia Brivio, Executive Chef, and Founder of The Well Seasoned Chef, who is an alumna from the Class of 1995; Beatriz (Betty) Manetta, Founder, President and CEO of Argent Associates, a women and minority-owned supply-chain management and IT service provider; and former Mexican circus performer Kathryn Martell, a Baruch alumna from the MBA Class of 2011 whose language study at Baruch enabled her to participate in an internship conducting global research projects for the Spanish government agency, AIDIMA. The discussion will be moderated by Maria Montalvo, a Baruch professor of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature and alumna from the Class of 2005.
Panelists will discuss how their Baruch educations in the languages, humanities and/or in business prepared them for their current careers, and particularly how their cultural background and knowledge of a second language played a role in achieving success.
The experienced and diverse mentors and faculty within the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature help native and non-native students access other cultures and gain essential communication skills in a targeted language.
