Baruch College and the American Society of Geolinguistics Present
"Language and the Media" Symposium


NEW YORK, NY- September 2, 2014 - The Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature at Baruch College’s Weissman School of Arts and Sciences is hosting a two-day symposium, “Language and the Media,” September 5-6., co-hosted by The American Society of Geolinguistics.

The event will focus on the discussion and impact of language on the media, as well as how the media influences language. Topics include: linguistic greetings; foul language, free expression and the media; China media in10 words; polyglottery and the media; the use of cueing language in media coverage; and the semantics of the exclamation point.

Speakers will include leaders from Baruch College, CUNY, Daito Bunka University in Tokyo, Henan University in China, American Baptist College in Nashville, University of Queensland in Australia, The Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, Pontypridd in Wales, and the Russian Research Institute for Cultural and Natural Heritage in Moscow. The discussion is moderated by Wayne Fink, Associate Professor of Spanish at Baruch.
