NEW YORK, NY- May 9, 2014 – John V. Maciuika, Associate Professor in the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College, was recently awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Rome Prize by The American Academy in Rome.

Professor Maciuika, in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, was presented with a prize in the category of “Historic Preservation and Conservation,” for his work with “The Eternal Palace: Transformations and Reconstructions of the Berlin ‘Stadtschloss,’ 1450-2020.”

The winners were announced at the 118th Annual Arthur & Janet C. Ross Rome Prize Ceremony, held April 10, at the Harmonie Club in New York City. Each year, through a national competition, the Rome Prize is awarded to approximately 30 individuals who represent the highest standard of excellence in the arts and humanities. Rome Prize recipients are provided with a fellowship, which includes a stipend and live/working space, and are invited to live in Rome for six months to two years to immerse themselves in the Academy community.

Professor Maciuika earned a PhD in the History of Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley; and a BA in European History from the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Maciuika specializes in the history of architecture and design from the nineteenth century to the present. He teaches art history survey courses as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate courses on the history of architecture, urbanism, design, and the applied arts at both Baruch College and the CUNY Graduate Center Ph.D. program in art history.
