Baruch College Hosts Annual Financial Markets Conference

"Equity Trading Round-Up: Proposals for Strengthening the Markets" October 14, 2014

NEW YORK, NY- September 17, 2014 – The Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College is hosting its annual Financial Markets Conference on October 14: “Equity Trading Round-Up: Proposals for Strengthening the Markets.”

The U.S. equity markets have been so transformed by technology, regulation, and corporate structure change that market participants, regulators and academicians have hardly been able to stay ahead of the thundering herd.  Our markets today are fast – are they too fast? They are competitive – are they too competitive? Has market quality improved – or not? These are among the issues that the conference will consider. Major attention will be paid to proposals for strengthening the markets.

Robert Schwartz, Speiser Professor of Finance at Baruch College, will give opening remarks. Other addresses will be given by Reto Francioni, CEO, Deutsche Börse AG;  Kevan Cowan, President, TSX Markets and Group Head of Equities TMX Group; Seth Merrin, CEO, Liquidnet; and Thomas Farley, President, New York Stock Exchange. Panel discussions throughout the day will feature representatives from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Blackrock, JP Morgan Securities and other financial and exchange companies.

The event is co-sponsored by BATS Exchange; BIDS Trading; Bloomberg Tradebook LLC; Canadian Securities Exchange; Instinet; International Securities Exchange; ITG Inc.; Liquidnet: Nasdaq OMX; NYSE; PDQ ATS Inc.; TABB Group, and TMX Group.
