Baruch College Welcomes Carson Block to Speak About Accounting and Business Fraud
NEW YORK, NY- August 29, 2014 - The Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity at Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business welcomes Carson Block, director of research and founding partner of Muddy Waters Research LLC, to speak about his career and his company’s role in investigating public companies. The event is co-sponsored by The Zicklin Graduate Accounting Society and the Zicklin Forensic Accounting Association.
Muddy Waters is a due diligence-based investment and research firm that conducts extensive accounting and on-the-ground investigations of public companies. In total, Muddy Waters has issued eight “strong sell” recommendations resulting more than $8 billion of downward market cap adjustments, four de-listings and six or more regulatory investigations.
Mr. Block will speak about forensic accounting techniques Muddy Waters used to identify issues, common elements of fraud, the effect that Muddy Waters and short sellers in general have on the market, negative media coverage of short sellers, and his career path and motivation for launching the company.
