Baruch College Ranks #10 Among
"50 Most Diverse U.S. Colleges"
NEW YORK, NY- February 13, 2014 -Baruch College recently ranked #10 among the “50 Most Diverse U.S. Colleges,” according to BestColleges.com. Baruch received a Shannon-Weiner Diversity Index Score of 1.41, out of a possible score of 1.94.
In its ranking, BestColleges.com recognizes Baruch’s diversity and states: “CUNY Bernard M Baruch College has many attractive features for a diverse student population; from student run initiatives like CUNY Black Male Initiative to the Asian Culture Exchange, a student run club, there are plenty of options to choose from and support to be had. This school even features an International Student Service Center, which exists to assist students with the immigration and administration aspects of their education.”
Methodology: To create this ranking, BestColleges.com consulted two authoritative sources on the subject: the Shannon-Weiner Index, one of the most widely used algorithms for determining ethnic diversity within a specified population; and the Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System, a compendium of statistics associated with gender and ethnic disbursement maintained by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). For its ranking, BestColleges.com included schools with the highest self-reporting populations of Asian, African American and Latino or Hispanic students.
