Baruch College Welcomes Community for CUNY Month 2012 Events



NEW YORK, NY-November 6, 2012 ? Throughout November Baruch College invites the community to visit the campus and attend a variety of events scheduled in celebration of CUNY Month 2012. CUNY Month is an opportunity to learn more about CUNY, its students, faculty and public events that include lectures, panel discussions, workshops, theater performances and athletic events.

Some of the CUNY Month events scheduled at Baruch College include:

  • “The 2012 Elections: What Happened and Why -- Plus Some Premature Predictions:” On November 8, Baruch hosts a panel discussion about the 2012 U.S. Presidential Election, featuring Monika McDermott, a CBS election analyst and Fordham professor, Louis Bolce, a public opinion specialist and Baruch professor, and David Jones, a voting behavior expert and Baruch professor. Thomas Halper, chair of political science at Baruch, will moderate the discussion. A light lunch will be provided. This event is located in Room 3-360 of the Newman Vertical Campus. Learn more.
  • UMBERTO E: a film by Anton Evangelista: On November 15, award-winning filmmaker Anton Evangelista’s heart-warming documentary about the epic story of Umberto Evangelista, a dynamic and charming ninety-year-old Italian immigrant. A real-life Cinderella tale, “Umberto E” leads us along his path of personal triumphs over childhood abandonment, harsh treatment in orphanages, and a rejecting stepmother. In spite of all his adversities, Umberto chooses love and forgiveness as his weapons of “revenge,” which lead to finding the love of his life -his wife Luisa, and the new life they would have with their children in coming to America.   • Baruch College Men’s Basketball will compete against The College of Brockport on November 20 in Baruch’s Athletic Recreation Complex Arena. After competing in The Radisson Scranton Invitational with a season-opening game against York College of Pennsylvania. Baruch Bearcats will be take on the Golden Eagles. Learn more.
