Adjunct Assistant Professor
Steven Newmark is the Senior Health Policy Advisor to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio where he works directly with the City's Health Department and Public Hospital System and spearheads a Mayoral Task Force on immigrant health care access and another on opioid drug misuse.
Steven previously served as General Counsel to then Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, as a litigator at the law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, and as a Guest Lecturer in Public Policy at Columbia University.
Steven sits on the Board of the Primary Care Development Corporation, the New York Blood Center, and New York City Health + Hospitals.
Steven is active politically – both locally and nationally. He served as National Co-Chair of Lawyers for Obama (2012) and on President Obama's National Finance Committee (2008 and 2012). Steven assisted with the Obama/Biden Transition Team in 2008-09 and Cy Vance's Transition Team for Manhattan DA in 2009. During the '08 cycle, Steven was the National Coordinator of Young Lawyers for Obama, an organization of over 11,000 attorneys nationwide. In 2007, Steven was seconded by the U.S. State Department to serve as an American monitor for elections in Albania.
Steven holds a JD from Fordham Law School and an MPA from Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs.
Steven will be teaching PAF 9735 Health Care Policy in the spring sesmester of 2016.
