Austin W. Marxe School of Public and International Affairs offers a number of awards to new incoming students. Along with more traditional scholarship offers fellowship packages combine scholarship funding, part time work and stipend which cover the total costs of tuition and fees. Scholarship and fellowship award recipients are selected based upon their GPA, strength of application submitted and fit for the program. Award packages are available only to degree program students. All applicants are automatically considered for awards at the time of admission. There is no separate application to be considered for awards. Fellowships are awarded to fall incoming students and are applied for one full academic year (Fall & Spring). See below for more details.

Marxe Dean’s Fellowship
Awarded to new incoming traditional MPA and MIA full time students with proven track of academic excellence, demonstrating leadership qualities including commitment to volunteerism and community service, academic excellence, leadership roles, and other demonstrative qualities proving applicants commitment to public service. Must enroll full time to qualify. Must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher.

This fellowship package is distributed over a year in three components:

  • Full tuition Scholarship and fee for 18 credits divided evenly in two semesters
  • Fellowship award distributed over two semesters working with the Marxe Dean for 10 hours per week
  • Book stipend

Marxe Endowed Faculty Fellowship
Awarded to new incoming traditional MPA and MIA full time students with proven track of academic excellence, demonstrating leadership qualities including commitment to volunteerism and community service, academic excellence, leadership roles, and other demonstrative qualities proving applicants commitment to public service. Must enroll full time to qualify. Must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher.

This fellowship package is distributed over a year in three components:

  • Full tuition Scholarship and fee for 18 credits divided evenly in two semesters
  • Fellowship award distributed over two semesters working with an Endowed faculty mentor for 10 hours per week
  • Book stipend

Marxe Excellence Scholarship award
Full tuition Scholarship award for new incoming students covering 18 credits evenly divided in two semesters. Awarded to traditional MPA, MIA and MSEd-HEA with proven track of academic excellence, demonstrating leadership qualities including commitment to volunteerism and community service, academic excellence, leadership roles, and other demonstrative qualities proving applicants commitment to public service. Must enroll for 9 or more credits each semester to qualify. Must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Marxe Scholarship Awards
Scholarship awarded to new incoming traditional MPA, MIA and MSEd-HEA with proven track of academic excellence, demonstrating leadership qualities including commitment to volunteerism and community service, academic excellence, leadership roles, and other demonstrative qualities proving applicants commitment to public service. Must enroll for minimum number of credits required on award letter to qualify. Must maintain a 3.3 GPA or higher.

Hagedorn Scholar Awards
Scholarship awarded to new incoming traditional MPA, MIA and MSEd-HEA with proven track of academic excellence, demonstrating leadership qualities including commitment to volunteerism and community service, academic excellence, leadership roles, and other demonstrative qualities proving applicants commitment to public service. Must enroll for minimum number of credits required on award letter to qualify. Must maintain 3.5 GPA or higher.

Mary and Abraham D. Beam Scholarship
Awarded to new incoming students preparing careers in public service upon strength of their application.

Hearst Fellowship in Nonprofit Management
One year fellowship for new students preparing for careers in nonprofit management.

Mayor’s Graduate Scholarship
Students must apply through the Mayor’s Graduate Scholarshipoffice. Those applicants are then forwarded to us for the committee’s review.
