Kinshuk (MBA ‘01) and Geetika (Nigam) Sharma (MBA ’01)

It was about a month into the semester in the fall of 1999 when Kinshuk and I first met each other. Although we were enrolled in different programs, there was a lot that we found in common between us. The Big Apple can definitely put the toughest of newcomers to the test with its fast-changing seasons and even faster (read “unruly”) cabbies. I had noticed that this guy, who was just a few weeks living in New York City, just as I was, was a tad more uncomfortable in his new surroundings. One of the main reasons, which I found out later, was that he had never walked into an eatery that did not serve a vegetable burger.
From the get-go, we shared a good rapport and started meeting regularly. It was definitely among the best times, as we explored a city that people back home and throughout the world talk so much about. As the new millennium set in, we realized that we had something special and were more than just friends. We went on our first “date” on January 7, 2000. Ever since we’ve celebrated that day as our anniversary! We’ve been through many ups and downs during the course of the past eight years, including a long-distance relationship for almost a year (Kinshuk returned to India a year before I did). Finally we tied the knot a year ago with both our respective families and friends present.
