Go Back

In the middle of my sophomore year at college in January 1983 I transferred from SUNY Albany to Baruch College to be with my mom, who had been in a car accident and needed me home. I promised my roommates that I would return to Albany after just one semester at Baruch. Little did I know that I would meet my future husband, Scott Klein, on the first day at Baruch. Scott was transferring from SUNY Stony Brook. He, too, had personal reasons that compelled him to be home with his dad. Baruch was a natural choice for us as we were both studying business.

Scott and I were both waiting to see a counselor who would evaluate our credits and inform us about the registration process. It was mid-January and school was starting in just a few days. We began talking after I asked him if I could review his schedule of classes. Three weeks later, he tapped me on the shoulder as I was window-shopping on East 23rd Street. Every Thursday all students had a three-hour break regardless of their major, so we hung out for the next few hours.

Our relationship evolved and before you knew it, we became college sweethearts. We have been married over 18 years and have three precious daughters. Sadly, each of us lost the person who brought us to Baruch. My father-in-law passed away five years ago and my mother passed away last month. There was one thing my mother always said, “You wouldn’t have met Scott if it wasn’t for me.” Of course, I wouldn’t have met my college sweetheart if it weren’t for Baruch.
