Go back

Diana and I met during the winter intercession of our junior year (January 2004) while studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain. It is interesting to note that we may have never met had it not been for study abroad.

The first day of classes, I arrived early to take a placement test. That’s when I first saw her. I couldn’t help but glance over in her direction. Her smile lit up the room.

Diana wound up in a class with one of my roommates. Later that night, my roommate told me a girl from Baruch would be coming out with us that evening. Imagine my surprise when the angel with the gorgeous smile showed up at my apartment!

Over the next week, I found myself spending lots of time with Diana. We would always find ourselves alone, lost in conversation. This allowed us to really get to know each other.

I will always remember the day I fell for Diana. A group of us went out bowling, and it was quite boring. A few of us decided to go out for drinks. Diana and I spent the rest of the night chatting, and it was obvious that we had made a strong connection.

The rest of the month played out like an onscreen romance. We had our first kiss in the rain outside of her apartment, we took weekend trips all over Spain, and we officially became a couple on Jan. 27, 2004.

Leaving Spain, I don’t think either of us knew what to expect, but when we returned to Baruch, nothing had changed. That magic was still there, and it has remained until this day. I am certain it will remain for the rest of our lives.
