ADAM SANDLER MAKES A COURT APPEARANCE AT BARUCH
During one Saturday in March, the 25th Street entrance of the Newman Vertical Campus was disguised
as a courthouse for the shooting of the film Empty City, starring Adam Sandler, Liv Tyler, and Don Cheadle. Directed by Mike Binder (The Upside of Anger) and due out later this year, the movie focuses on Sandler’s character, still grieving over the loss of his family in the 9/11 attacks. In a scene shot at Baruch, the unhinged-looking Sandler awaits a trial during which he must prove his competence to handle finances.
Baruch has been the location for several movies and television shows, including 2004’s The Manchurian Candidate, which used the Administration Building, and CBS’s CSI, in which the exterior of the Field Building at 17 Lex portrayed a courthouse. Though the College is perfect for such distinguished roles, let’s hope it doesn’t get typecast.
