Caryn and I first met in the registration line at the Lexington Avenue building the first week of September. She looked familiar. Did I know her? Or maybe it was just that all the girls in the early ‘90s were doing the leggings-tucked-in-the-socks thing. I bumped into her again on the elevator that went to the 6th floor library. She was chatting it up with everyone. Very cute, but the competition looked pretty fierce.
I saw her a few more times the first week. My big chance finally came when she transferred into Dr. Parket’s Marketing 9703 class. She was adorable with dark skin and a beautiful smile. I moved my chair over to where she was sitting and we wrote notes back and forth during the lecture. After class she invited me for drinks. When I showed up there were four other guys at the table. Was I just a friend or one of her harem?
After a few months of many “study dates,” things started to get more serious. Studying was becoming less important when we were together. Between classes, we would sit in Madison Square Park and talk about the past and the future. Exactly two and half years later we got engaged on a bench on the northeast corner of the park.
This year we celebrate 10 years together and have successful careers and an amazing family. Thank you to Baruch for bringing Caryn and me together.

I got as far as my second week of classes toward my MBA at Baruch when I knew I had met my future husband.
I didn’t think it would happen that way. In fact, I had no idea what to expect when I first started at Baruch. I had just moved back to New York after living in Florida for a few years after college, and I knew just a handful of people in the city. I thought I would go for my MBA and figure it out as I went along.
During registration, I met this guy. He was cute, and I chatted with him on and off during that afternoon. I was nervous about starting school again, didn’t know what classes to take or even the best way to set up a schedule, but I signed up for a few things that sounded good and was on my way. After the first week of classes, I knew I had to make some changes. So I did, and found myself sitting in one of my new classes with someone behind me calling my name. It was, of course, the cute guy from registration.
We became “study” partners, and started to hang out. We spent lots of afternoons in Madison Square Park, enjoying the beautiful weather and getting to know each other. It wasn’t long before we were meeting each other’s families and planning a future together.
We both managed to get those MBAs, and made good use of the education and connections we made during our time at Baruch. That was about 13 years ago, and we have our 10th wedding anniversary this year. We have two wonderful children, a home in New Jersey, and we are both running our own businesses. How nice to look back and have so many wonderful memories. — Caryn
