We met in 1975 when we were both twenty years old. I had completed two years of college and left for a full-time job and he was finishing his last year at Baruch. During our first months together, he would drive me to my job in Manhattan and continue on to Baruch. Although this didn’t last long (he got me to work late every day!), I did learn about Baruch. In fact, he was registering for his last semester and I went along for the ride. As I sat there waiting for him and flipping through the catalogue, I noticed some business courses that would help me at work. Well, you guessed it, today we are both Baruch graduates! He went on to get a law degree and has his own practice in Westbury. We married in 1979 and have worked together in his law practice for the past 27 years.
Today, when we tell our children about our first years together, Baruch plays a very special role in our timeline. We tell the story of how I would meet him after work to be a participant in his industrial psychology experiments. It was also during our trips to the City – him to Baruch, me to work – that he developed his “10 Year Rule.” He would tell me that in ten years it wouldn’t matter that he got me to work late AND if it wouldn’t matter in 10 years, it shouldn’t matter now!
That “10 Year Rule” was right about getting to work late – it really didn’t matter. What does matter after all these years is that we are both Baruch graduates!
