MBA ’96
Co-Founder and Partner, MiCa Sports
At a time when many women are discovering just how difficult “having it all” (i.e., balancing career and motherhood) can be, Caryn Snerson has found a way to make it work.
In 1999, with her first child on the way, Snerson and a colleague, Michelle Mabel (who was also starting a family), decided to launch their own company. In the six years since founding their sports marketing recruitment firm, MiCa Sports has steadily grown.
“Right now we are incredibly busy,” says Snerson. “We have several new clients this year and are placing people on higher and higher levels.”
After earning a BA from Brandeis University and an MBA in marketing management from Baruch, Snerson worked as a sports marketing manager at NFL Properties, the licensing arm of the National Football League. She developed a wide range of contacts, which has enabled MiCa Sports to attract clients and recruit people strictly through referrals.
One of the secrets to their success is that they never turn anyone away. “We don’t usually place entry-level people—our business focuses mostly on managers and up—but we won’t turn anyone away. You never know where someone will be in a few years.”
Snerson’s children are now six and two. Her husband, Brian Snerson, also received an MBA (in 1995) from Baruch (they met on their first day, at registration). Working at home has given Snerson the flexibility she needs to “have it all.”
