On Feb. 6, Baruch's Career Development Center held its largest annual undergraduate Internship Fair to date, with 50 companies and over 820 students in attendance.
Among the recruiters were longtime attendees Abbott Laboratories, Deloitte & Touche, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Ernst & Young, IBM, NYU Medical Center, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and RJ Reynolds Tobacco.
As in previous years, company feedback was overwhelmingly positive. According to Richard J. Corbin, controller, corporate administration for Chicago's Abbott Labs, the company has accepted 15 Baruch students into its internship program in the past five years. "It's a niche that has paid off tremendously for both Baruch and Abbott," he declared. "Baruch's multicultural students give us a competitive advantage. They interview so well and have great experience." Like many of the firms in attendance, Abbott included several Baruch alumni among its recruiters.
In addition to perennial recruiters, there were many first-time attendees this year. Among the newcomers were Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation, CBS News, Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, God's Love We Deliver, JPMorgan Chase, Kognito Solutions (an alumni-run company that placed third in Baruch's 2003 Entrepreneurship Competition), McGraw-Hill, National Urban League, New York State Senate, Time Inc., Tribune Broadcasting, U.S. Marine Corps, and Zurich North America.
