Dr. Robinson Favors Girls' Readmission

Source: The Ticker, Apr. 13, 1935; p1.

A promise to communicate with President Eugene Colligen pf Hunter regarding the readmission of women at the School of Business was extended by President Frederick B. Robinson to representatives of the Girls Club. Student Council, and the Ticker in an interview on Saturday, April 7.

"I am not at all opposed to the continuance of women within the limits of facilities to care for them. If President Colligan will express his willingness to resume the admission of women at the School of Business, I will recommend that to the Board of Higher Education," declared the President.

In reference to the staus of women now within the College, President Robinson asserted that they would be allowed to proceed without obstacles until they are graduated, and that no college excercise would be closed to them

Discussing the discontinuance of women, he pointed out that the ban was prompted by two conditions. The number of women admitted, he said had exceeded the limit, and in addition, Hunter College had expressed a desire to institute business courses which it deemed appropriate for women. The School of Business was gradually deferred to these wishes, he indicated, by closing admission to women in the day session.

Dr. Robinson suggested, in answer to a question concerning a course of action, that the campaign be brought before the Board of Higher Education by means of a petition. He agreed to inform the committee of President Colligan's answer.
