3.9. Engaged

CUNY is considered engaged in a particular human subjects research project when CUNY employees, staff or students obtain, for the purposes of the research project, (1) data about the subjects of the research through intervention or interaction with them; (2) identifiable private information about the subjects of the research; or (3) the informed consent of human subjects for the research.

Note: CUNY applies OHRP Guidance on Engagement of Institutions to determine CUNY's engagement in all research, regardless of funding.

Non-Affiliated Principal Investigators can neither be affiliated with Baruch College or CUNY, nor collaborating with Baruch or CUNY investigators but wish to recruit participants for their research from Baruch College.

Non-Affiliated PI's must obtain IRB approval from their primary institution first before requesting permission to recruit participants at Baruch College.

In order to receive permission to recruit (i.e. post flyers on campus) the following documents must be submitted to the Baruch HRPP Office for review:

1. IRB Application from researcher's institution - (including all research procedures and forms (i.e. recruitment flyers, consent forms, etc.).

2. IRB Approval Letter from researcher's institution.

3. Fill out and submit the Non-Affiliated Researcher Form.

These items can emailed to the HRPP Coordinator at keisha.peterson@baruch.cuny.edu.

The Baruch HRPP Office will not be conducting an IRB review of this study. Additionally, submission of this request does not guarantee permission to recruit at Baruch College. Permission to recruit at Baruch College will be granted on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that permission received from the Baruch HRPP Office is for permission to recruit at Baruch College Only. If you would like to recruit from additional CUNY campuses, you must contact the HRPP Offices for those campuses.
