Instructions for Faculty Advisors

Role and Responsibility of Faculty Advisor - Undergraduate students may not serve as PIs unless they have a faculty advisor who fulfills the PI eligibility criteria and who will sign the research application and serve as co-investigator and faculty advisor on the study. When students conduct research as part of a course of study, a faculty member ultimately is responsible for the protection of the subjects, even if the student is the primary investigator and actually directs the project. Faculty advisors assume the responsibility for students engaged in independent research, and instructors are responsible for research that is conducted as part of a course.

Faculty Advisors must approve all applications before they are submitted or resubmitted (if a substantive revision is requested) to the HRPP.

Once a student has submitted their application, the faculty advisor should receive an notification email from IRB Manager requesting that they review and approve the application. This email will contain a link directly to the application that needs to be approved.

If the faculty advisor does not receive a notification, please follow these directions:

 

    1. GO TO IRB MANAGER WEBSITE:

       https://irbmanager.becirb.com/

   

     2.   LOG IN WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

      • Username: Email address provided in your IRB application.(Please Note that Baruch email addresses have been updated with a period instead of the underscore)
      • Password: first name (lower case)
      • Client: BaruchCollege

    3. ON THE BOTTOM LEFT OF THE PAGE CHOOSE XFORMS

      • On the left side of the page choose NOTIFICATIONS VIEW
      • All applications that need approval should be listed in this area.
      • Choose the CUNY IRB FORM link to application.
      • Please note that the faculty advisor must approve the application by typing in his or her IRB Manager password on the last page of the application.
