General Education Requirements

College Option for Weissman Students (BA Degree)

There are three versions of the College Option for students receiving the BA degree from the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences:

I.    for students entering Baruch or opting in to Pathways in fall 2013;

II.   for students entering Baruch or opting in to Pathways from spring 2014-fall 2014; and

III.  for students entering Baruch or opting in to Pathways starting spring 2015.

(see below for descriptions of each of these versions)


For all three versions:

  • Students who enter as freshmen will take all four of the courses listed in the tables below:
  • Students who transfer with 30 or fewer total credits from an associate program at any college (including non-CUNY regionally accredited colleges) will take all four of the courses listed in the tables below:
  • Students who transfer with more than 30 total credits from an associate program from any college (including non-CUNY regionally accredited colleges) but without an associate degree will take the first three of the courses listed in the tables below:
  • Students who transfer with an associate degree from any college (including non-CUNY regionally accredited colleges) will take the first two of the courses listed below:
  • NOTE: Students may transfer the College Option credits they earn in a CUNY baccalaureate program toward their College Option requirements at Baruch. If any of these College Option courses are being used to fulfill a requirement in the flexible core, they may not also be used to fulfill Baruch's College Option. In that circumstance, to fulfill Baruch's College Option you must substitute a 3000-level liberal arts course for the course being used in the flexible core.
  • A student who has earned a Bachelor's degree will be deemed to have fulfilled the College Option requirements at Baruch.

 

I. For students entering Baruch or opting in to Pathways in fall 2013, please follow the four courses below (all three-credit) of the Weissman College Option:

CMP / ENG 2850

Great Works of Literature I

or

Great Works of Literature II

Course 2
COM 1010 Speech Communication
Course 3
  1st Foreign Language course (based on placement)*
Course 4
  2nd Foreign Language course (the same language as the 1st Foreign Language course)*

*One of these courses must be completed at Baruch.

 

II. For students entering Baruch or opting in to Pathways from spring 2014-fall 2014, please follow the four courses below (all three-credit) of the Weissman College Option:

Course 1

CMP / ENG 2800

or

CMP / ENG 2850

Great Works of Literature I

or

Great Works of Literature II

Course 2
1st Foreign Language course (based on placement)*
Course 3
  2nd Foreign Language course (the same language as the 1st Foreign Language course)*
Course 4
COM 1010 Speech Communication

*One of these courses must be completed at Baruch.

 

III. For students entering Baruch or opting in to Pathways starting spring 2015, please follow the four courses below (all three-credit) of the Baruch College Option:

    Course 1

    CMP / ENG 2800

    or

    CMP / ENG 2850

    Great Works of Literature I

    or

    Great Works of Literature II

    Course 2

    4000-level CIC "capstone" course for one of the liberal arts minors

    This course must be completed at Baruch.

    Course 3

    1st 3000-level liberal arts course toward the same liberal arts minor

    Course 4
    2nd 3000-level liberal arts course toward the same liberal arts minor
