to the Parents and Families of Entering Freshman

Dear Parents and Families of Entering Freshmen:
Welcome to the Baruch community! You have a special role making the Baruch experience a rewarding one for your entering freshman. To learn more about the College and ways that you can make a difference, we invite you to attend a special Orientation for Parents and Families as part of the Baruch Beginnings schedule of activities on Tuesday August 26, 2008.
Come to the Baruch College Vertical Campus building at 55 Lexington Avenue (northeast corner of 24th Street) at 5:15 PM that day. Your orientation will be held in the 5th floor auditorium, Room 5-150. The program will consist of greetings by the President of Baruch College, Dr. Kathleen Waldron, and presentations on how you can assist with the academic success of your student, how the College prepares students for careers, and a review of resources that are available to assist students.
Immediately following the orientation, please attend a reception hosted by the Deans of the three Schools of the College on the 14th floor of the Vertical Campus, in room 14-220. The Deans, faculty, and other members of the College look forward to meeting you at the reception. While you attend these activities, your entering freshman will be participating in the Baruch Beginnings schedule of events for students. Following the reception, parents and students converge in the Atrium of the Vertical Campus building and outside the Vertical Campus building for the Baruch Beginnings Street Fair and Barbecue! Representatives from student clubs, College departments and services will have information tables set up there with games and prizes. The final event for the evening is scheduled for 7:30 PM with a special screening in Engelman Recital Hall of the Baruch Performing Arts Center of The Namesake a film version of the official freshman common reading. If you (and your entering student) are interested in attending this performance you must reserve your seats by calling the box office at 646-312-4085. There is no charge for this event.
Please RSVP whether you will attend the Parents Orientation/Reception by calling 646-312-4273 or email orientation@baruch.cuny.edu. Indicate clearly your name and the number in your party who plan to attend. Space is limited so please reserve as soon as possible.
We expect this event to be an exciting kick-off to your Baruch experience and look forward to seeing you on August 26th!
