Cost of Attendance
Each year CUNY develops student expense budgets that are used when determining students’ financial need. Student expense budgets include actual tuition and fee costs as well as allowances for the cost of books and supplies, transportation, food, housing and personal expenses. These student expense budgets are developed using information from the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for living costs in New York City.
These expense budgets represent the maximum amount of Financial Aid that students may receive from all sources, including student loans.
There are two student expense budget categories:
- Living With Parent budget
- Living Away From Parent budget
The nine-month (Fall and Spring semesters) student expense budgets that are used to determine financial need for the 2008-09 academic year are:
|
- The Housing component of the Living Away From Parent budget is derived using average housing charges for a rental apartment in metropolitan New York, using the assumption that the student is sharing the housing costs with a roommate.
- The Personal Expenses component includes an allowance for medical expenses and/or health insurance.
- Independent students who incur expenses for dependent care (either child care or elder care) may have their expense budget adjusted.
