RE: Scholar Incentive Awards
The Scholar Incentive Awards Program provides a valuable opportunity for faculty
to pursue research and creative work. The Scholar Incentive Awards application
can also be accessed from the Faculty Handbook at Baruch’s Website.
The CUNY Office of Academic Affairs must review applications for Scholar Incentive
Awards before being transmitted to the Board of Trustees for final approval. Applications
for leave for Fall 2005, are due at the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs by April
1, 2005; applications for Spring 2006 are due by October 1, 2005. All Personnel
& Budget Committee approvals must be obtained before an application is sent
to the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs.
The first College Personnel & Budget Committee review of applications for
Scholar Incentive Awards will be on December 7, 2004. School Personnel & Budget
Committee actions will have to take place prior to that date so that recommendations
may be available for that meeting. Applications can be considered at later P&B
meetings, but faculty members must be aware of the OAA’s application deadlines.
Please be sure that all eligible faculty in your department know about this opportunity
for incentive awards. It is important that all interested applicants understand
the supporting evidence, which must be submitted. I especially call to your attention
the application guidelines, which state the requirements for either substantiation
of non-CUNY funding or letters supporting the project and the description of the
proposed research. If a faculty member is considering applying for an Award contingent
upon the approval of outside funding, but does not expect to be notified in time
to meet the deadline, an application may be submitted and can be withdrawn if
funding is denied.
