FOR STUDENTS


After I log into CUNYfirst, I see a banner for a different CUNY College. How do I change this or update it to show Baruch’s banner?

To change or update the banner, you must update your record.

  • Login to CUNYfirst.
  • In the ENTERPRISE MENU, select HR/Campus Solutions - this will bring you to your CUNYfirst record.
  • Select Student Center, you will see your stop(s) and registration date on the left of the main screen. If you are seeing another CUNY college's banner, trigger an account update:
  • Go into your personal data and change personal information, such as a telephone number or email address; delete or add a new one. This change of personal information will trigger a synchronization within CUNYfirst and should point you to the Baruch College banner.
  • Log out, wait at least an hour and log back in. When you log back in you can then change your information again if you like.

Be patient - during busy periods it can take up to 24 hours for a full system refresh to see the change to the College banner.

What are the password requirements for CUNYfirst?

  • At least 8 characters long
  • At least 1 uppercase letter AND at least 1 numeric OR one special character
  • Can't use last 4 previous passwords
  • Can't be changed for 5 days after the last password change

 

Do I have to be on campus to register for a CUNYfirst account?

No. All you need is internet access and one of the recommended browsers.

 

What if I forget my password?

Click on the “forgot your password” link. If you haven’t claimed your account, you will be asked to set your challenge questions. If you have claimed your account already, then you will be asked to answer the questions.

If you are unable to answer your challenge questions, then you can re-claim your account again by clicking the “First Time Users” link and entering in your information.

 

Which browser is recommended for CUNYfirst access?

  • Internet Explorer 6.0+
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.6+

 

Does CUNYfirst work on MACs?

Yes, as long as you use a recommended browser.

 

What is the biggest difference between SIMS and CUNYfirst?

The answer is right there – systems vs. system. Our current systems, which are numerous, operate to conduct all our business at CUNY. Very few of them interact with each other. CUNYfirst integrates all our financial, HR and student processes so that data can be used instantaneously across departments and across the University.

 

Do students have to log into the CUNY Portal to access CUNYfirst like eSims?

No. CUNYfirst is being hosted (where the servers and data reside) outside of CUNY. Users log into CUNYfirst via their internet browser directly into their processes. There is no second step.


Do I have to claim my account before I register for classes?

Yes. To register, you must claim your CUNYfirst account.

 

Will placing courses in my shopping cart save my seat in the class?

No. Your must click the "enroll" tab on or after your enrollment date to be officially enrolled in the course.

 

Why are these changes happening now?

The changes are occurring now because CUNYfirst has been launched. CUNYfirst is Baruch's new registration and information management system that’s replaced eSIMS. CUNYfirst is a City University-wide system that manages student’s education and records allowing students to access many important services such as:

  • Search and Register for Classes
  • View Course Schedule and History
  • Pay Tuition and Fees

FOR FACULTY


Will I have to enter grades in CUNYfirst or WebGrade?

You will have to enter grade information in CUNYfirst as WebGrade is no longer available. To download the faculty guide to grade submission, visit the Baruch College Faculty guide to CUNYfirst on our web site: http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/cunyfirst/faculty.html and look for the Guide listed as “Submit Grades.”

 

I heard about Employee Self-Service and the ability to work with HR to make sure my personal information is correct. Is there anything that cannot be changed?

With the CUNYfirst Human Resource module, all faculty and staff are encouraged to check to make sure their data is correct, i.e. spelling of name, address, family information and current listing of benefits. If anything is not correct, employees should contact their local HR office to make sure it is corrected. In that data, information such as social security numbers, which are needed for tax purposes, along with name changes, new degrees, etc. must be confirmed by the HR professionals.
