Support to help you prepare for the CPE
In addition, many other resources are available to assist you with the Proficiency Exam. Most faculty members in the Department of English are familiar with the CPE; some faculty members were instrumental in developing the exam. The English Department’s Writing Center may provide additional help if you are currently in an English or ESL course.
The Writing Center is located in room 6-243 of the Vertical Campus, and its hours are:
Monday 10:00 to 7:30
Tuesday 9:00 to 7:00
Wednesday 11:00 to 5:00
Thursday 9:00 to 5:30
Friday 9:00 to 3:00
The Writing Center offers face-to-face tutoring and e-tutoring; you may write to an e-tutor (at
e-tutoring@baruch,cuny.edu) who will provide feedback via return e-mail.
The Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute will conduct workshops for the CPE prior to the examination dates. If you are interested in a workshop session, please call 646 312 - 2060 or visit the office which is located at 137 East 25th Street, Room 317.
The Student Academic Consulting Center (SACC) will also offer workshops. You may visit the office, which is located at 55 Lexington Avenue, Room B 2-116 to register and obtain detailed information.
