| Recommendation Letters |
Letters of recommendation are required as part of a Graduate school application. Typically two or three letter need to be submitted. Letters of recommendation should be obtained from Undergraduate professors who have strong knowledge of your academic performance. In some cases, professional work recommendations may be submitted, especially in the case of an MBA application; however, academic recommendations are strongly preferred.
Most schools provide a form that must be filled out by each person completing a recommendation and sent to the school in conjunction with the letter. These forms can be founds on a school's admissions office website and are also typically included in a paper application. When an online application is available, your references can send the letter of recommendation directly as part of the online application.
You should provide a number of materials in order for a reference to complete a thorough and relevant recommendation. These materials should include:
-Transcripts -A resume -Information about the program you are applying to and why you have chosen the particular program.
Additionally, you must provide your contact information and information about how the recommendation should be sent including the deadline for submission.
****Make sure that you do not approach a possible reference last minute about writing a recommendation!! Begin talking to professors MONTHS before the letters are due. You are looking for a positive recommendation and rushing a reference last minute certainly does not leave a good impression!!
