When you come for your appointment:

  • Bring a flash drive so that you can take your videotaped interview with you to review

Oftentimes, students say they have taken "the test" at the Starr Career Development Center to assist in planning their major selection and/or career path.

We offer a variety of assessment tools for values, skills, accomplishments, personality style, interests as well as other areas important to career development.

Two of the most popular career assessments used at the SCDC are: the Strong Interest Inventory© and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator©.

After meeting with a career counselor, you may be encouraged to take one or more of these assessments to assist you in gathering the information needed to make your career or major decisions.

In the Starr Career Development Center staff, there are advisors who are specialized in graduate school and developing an ad hoc major. By contacting the SCDC and specifying your interests in these areas, you can make an appointment with one of these specialized advisors.

There are a variety of mentoring and networking programs and events that are sponsored by the SCDC. We encourage you to take full advantage of this rich set of opportunities as having mentors and a strong network are crucial to the job search and career development processes.

The Starr Career Development Center holds a number of career fairs throughout the academic year.

Hundreds of employers take part in these fairs every year. These career fairs provide students the opportunity to interact with recruiters from a variety of fields. It always important to have your resume review prior to the fair during resume rush or before by the SCDC.

On the day of the career fair:
  • Dress for success (i.e., business attire)
  • Be prepared to speak about your accomplishments
  • Bring numerous copies of your reviewed resume so that you can put your best foot forward in your interaction with the recruiter

On-campus recruitment, also known as OCR, is a program for seniors where recruiters from various companies including the Big 4, RSM McGladrey, Grant Thornton, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Citibank, NY Life and many others come to select talent from Baruch College for employment.

In order to be eligible for OCR, you must attend the Mandatory OCR Workshop. For a list of these workshops, check out Starr Search.

It is an excellent system for many of your career needs and we encourage you to utilize it regularly while a student at Baruch College and even after you graduate as an alumnus/a.
