On Thursday, October 10th at 12:30pm, Baruch Performing Arts Center will host the showing of the first in its series of documentary films. THE REEL BARUCH FILM SERIES will introduce broad themes of relevance to students, who will have an opportunity to discuss the film and the issues it addresses after the film.
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
The first film is CHANGING MINDS AT CONCORD HIGH SCHOOL. This specific event is being organized in collaboration with the Baruch College-Rubin Museum Project and the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Program at Baruch College.
CHANGING MINDS AT CONCORD HIGH SCHOOL is a documentary about a science and mindfulness program developed for an at risk school on Staten Island. Inspired by new research on the brain’s ability to change, the students learned strategies to better regulate their attention and emotion.
Susan Finley is the Creator/Director of CHANGING MINDS AT CONCORD HIGH SCHOOL. Finley will discuss her film and the impact that the mindfulness program she developed had on the lives of the students at Concord High School. Dr. Tracy Dennis, the lead scientist for the project and a Professor in the Psychology Department at Hunter College may join Susan Finley in the discussion of the film. Professor Dennis is also a member of the CUNY faculty for the Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience and Health and Clinical Psychology Science doctoral programs.
