Service and Citizenship: A Conversation with Jack Jacobs and Bill Roedy

Event Description:
Bill Roedy was most recently Chairman and Chief Executive of MTV Networks International. Mr. Roedy also served in the US army in Airborne, Ranger and decorated combat service, where he received the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (with Silver Star), and as a commander of three NATO Nuclear Missile bases in Italy. Mr. Roedy has been active in a wide range of corporate social responsibility issues, most notably global health. He has also targeted issues and concerns that are foremost in young peoples’ minds and that directly impact their lives.

Colonel Jack Jacobs, who entered military service through Rutgers ROTC, earned the Medal of Honor for exceptional heroism on the battlefields of Vietnam. He also holds three Bronze Stars and two Silver Stars. Jacobs served on the faculty of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the National War College in Washington, D.C. After retirement, he founded and was chief operating officer of Auto Finance Group. As a managing director of Bankers Trust Co., he led Global Investment Management to $2.2 billion in assets and later co-founded a similar business for Lehman Brothers. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is a director of the Medal of Honor Foundation. He is also a military analyst for NBC/MSNBC.

Chris Jansing hosts “Jansing and Co.” Jansing joined NBC News in June 1998 as an NBC News correspondent and anchor for MSNBC. Jansing has traveled everywhere from Iceland to Afghanistan in pursuit of major stories, including the death of Pope John Paul II and the election of Pope Benedict. Jansing’s reporting duties also extend to NBC News, including her frequent work as a correspondent for “Dateline NBC,” as well as substitute anchor for “Weekend Today” and the Sunday edition of “NBC Nightly News.” Throughout her extensive career, Jansing has received numerous awards for excellence in journalism, including an Emmy for her coverage of the 1996 Olympic bombing in Atlanta, and a “Best Documentary” award from the New York State Broadcasters Association for “In The Land of Plenty,” a report on hunger in New York state.
