Event Description:
School of Public Affairs Dean’s Advisory Board invites you to participate in a conversation about food policy:

Food Fights -  an exploration of food, health, policy and industry

Food policy, once the almost exclusive domain of agriculture schools, is an increasing concern of mainstream policy makers at every level of government. From the regulation and labeling of genetically modified organisms to oversight of imported food, from the devastation of obesity-related illness to the tragedy of “food deserts” in low-income neighborhoods, from farm subsidies to the exploding urban agriculture movement, food policy is often at the very heart of debates over public health, nutrition, the integrity of the food supply, and equal access to the basic building blocks of a healthful, fulfilling life. This program brings together experts on several aspects of food policy (or its absence), including differential access to nutritious food by neighborhood, the role of business in promoting healthful eating habits, and the impact of nutritional problems on children’s development.
