Description:
Amelia Roosevelt, baroque violin
John Mark Rozendaal, viola da gamba
Avi Stein, Harpsichord

Repast's trio of baroque violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord performs music by Bach and the great masters in the generation before him, including Biber, Buxtehude and Ehrlebach.

Acclaimed by the NY Times for its "vital performances" and “robust” playing, Repast is a collaboration of three period-instrument virtuosi presenting vivid renditions of music of the baroque era. Repast members Amelia Roosevelt (baroque violin), John Mark Rozendaal (baroque violoncello and viola da gamba), and Avi Stein (harpsichord), each have active careers in historical performance and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the trio’s programs. Repast enjoys frequent and fruitful collaborations with leading period instrument players and vocalists in order to explore the vast, masterful repertoire of the baroque era. The group’s name, meaning a meal or a feast, is a double-entendre: out of the revival of past music comes a delectable, spiritually nourishing experience.

Founded in New York City, the ensemble was a finalist in the Early Music America/Naxos Recording Competition in 2003. Since then the group has performed at Bargemusic, the Early Music Society of the Islands in Victoria, B.C., Museum Concerts of Rhode Island, the Times Center, Midtown Concerts, the New York Early Music Celebration, the Staller Center for the Arts, the Lyceum Concert Series, and the Brooklyn Friends Meeting House, in addition to their regular series at Baruch Performing Arts Center. Future engagements include performances at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.

Repast’s musicians are committed educators. The group has presented workshops and lecture-demonstrations at Columbia University, the Brooklyn Queens Conservatory of Music, and Baruch College.
