Microsoft Office 2013 Upgrade Plan

Baruch will be undergoing a software upgrade for PC's running Microsoft Office 2010 to Office 2013 during the summer months in 2015. Work is being done to prepare the entire campus, including faculty and staff offices as well as student computing equipment, to be fully equipped with this version of Microsoft Office.

The project will be conducted in phases over the summer months where all departments in a given building will be upgraded in their scheduled week. Technical Coordinators will be assisting faculty with the upgrade of their machines while BCTC staff will be assisting the students and staff.

Upgrade Schedule

The schedule for upgrades is as follows:

All departments in their respective buildings will be contacted the week of to remind them of the upgrade. Please remember to do the following before you leave on the Wednesday of your scheduled week:

1. Log out of your workstation fully. This can be accomplished by going to the Start Menu startmenu and selecting "Log off." logoff

2. Leave your PC turned on.

Upgrade Process

Your copy of Microsoft Office will be upgraded automatically overnight using our application server during your department's scheduled week.Your current MS Office 2010 files will not be affected by this upgrade since Office 2013 has a backward-compatibility mode allowing the software to open and read older file types. Employees are encouraged to save documents in the new 2013 format moving forward.

We will be following this same process each week for each building:

Monday - Email communication to departments; Walkthrough and reminder

Tuesday/Wednesday - Preparation for upgrades

Wednesday to Thursday (Overnight) - Automated software upgrade

Thursday - Validation Checks
