Multi-language Support in Blackboard 6.3 > Return to Blackboard 6.3 FAQ's

Blackboard's interface (left-side navigation, buttons and system language) can now be set to five different Western European languages:  (default) English, German, Spanish, Italian and French.  Instructors can set entire courses through the Control Panel.  Individual users can also change settings through the Personal Information area in the My Learning Net tab.

To Change Your Course Settings in the Control Panel (for Instructors, Teaching Assistants and Students):

1.  Follow this path through the Blackboard Control Panel:  Control Panel > Course Options area > Settings

2. Inside the Settings, click on Set Locale:

3. In the Set Locale area, select which language you would like to use in your course navigation and buttons (only the 'system' elements).  Be sure to click on the Submit button after selecting your locale:

4.  The areas of your course that change include the left-side navigation links (or Course Menu), the Breadcrumbs (links along the top of the screen), system tabs, buttons and Course Tools (see example).

To Change Your Course Settings in your Personal Information (changes occur *in your Blackboard view only*):

1.  In the My Learning Net area, click on the Personal Information link:

2.  Click on the Set Locale link:

3.  Select your User Locale from the list of available options and click on the Submit button. 

Select your Locale language and click on the Submit button:

4.  The areas that change in the system are primarily in the My Learning Net area.  Buttons and system language display in your Locale.  Course and Community content language settings are set by the instructor or organization leader.
