Welcome!

Baruch College Campus High School, also known as BCCHS, has an active PTA.

Below you will find out:

  • Who is part of the PTA?
  • Does it cost anything to join?
  • Where does the PTA meet?
  • What are the BCCHS PTA objectives?
  • Who is on the PTA Executive Board?
  • How can you be involved and help out at BCCHS?

Who is part of the PTA?
Membership in the association is limited to parents, legally appointed guardians, and persons in parental relation to students currently attending Baruch College Campus High School, as well as to all teachers currently employed on a full-time basis at Baruch College Campus High School, with the exception of persons in supervisory positions.

Does it cost anything to join?
At the start of each school year, each family is asked to make a voluntary donation. Donations are not a requirement for membership, voting or running for office.

It is important to note, however, that all donations are utilized to assist our School in the everyday running of operations, i.e. purchasing office supplies, paying for buses for trips, for some books and educational materials, for the mailing of our bi-monthly PTA newsletter, for the Student-run “411” Newspaper, for the BCCHS Profiles and Brochures that are sent out to Colleges nationwide, for the Photocopier machine maintenance contracts, helping to pay for the Graduation, …

    Where does the PTA meet?
We hold 5-7 meetings over the course of the school year. Our PTA Meetings are held at 6:00 pm in the Skylight Room, on the third (3rd) floor, in our High School building located at 17 Lexington Avenue.

What are the BCCHS PTA objectives?
To provide support and resources to the school for the benefit and educational growth of the children

To promote and help develop a cooperative working relationship between the parents and staff of our High School

To develop parent leadership and build capacity for greater involvement

To foster and encourage parent participation on all levels

To provide opportunities and training for parents to participate in school governance and decision-making

Who is on the PTA Executive Board?
The composition of the PTA Executive Board for the 2003-2004 School Year was:

    1 President, 2 Co-Vice Presidents, 1 Treasurer, 1 Secretary.

We also have a BCCHS Representative who goes to all Parent Council Meetings, and a Newsletter Editor. They are invited to join, and have an active voice at all BCCHS PTA Executive Board Meetings.

How can you be involved/help out?
The BCCHS PTA plays an active role in creating and maintaining a sense of community within our parental body, thanks to our vibrant Principal and her team of involved Faculty. These various “jobs” mean that you can be aware of the BCCHS school life, without being too obviously present – an important point in our teenagers’ lives.

    Jobs include:

  • Writing an article for the BCCHS PTA Newsletter. It is mailed out to the Families/Guardians of students in school every 2 months approximately, in English AND in Chinese – We are always looking for articles to put to press!

  • Becoming an Advisory Parent. The Advisory Program is one of BCCHS’ key components. We try to find 2 Advisory Parents per Advisory Class, so that each person places 10 phone calls maximum, about once a month. These calls serve to remind the parents about upcoming events in the life of the school and reinforce the sense of community that is cultivated at our high school.

  • Becoming a Translation Advisory Parents - During the 2003-2004 school year, there were 28 different languages spoken within our community in our teenagers’ homes… We welcome interpreters from our network of families, who make themselves available. These Translating Advisory Parents double up with the Advisory Parents by placing calls in Chinese and Spanish to those families who find it easier to communicate in their own language – We definitely need more speakers in those languages!

  • For those of you who are allowed, by your teenagers, to be “on the premises” once in a while: There are various events that take place over the course of the school year where our parents help make them even more special – Choose the event you’d like to help out in amongst the following: Alumni event, College Night, Writing Thank You notes, Heritage Night, School Play, Senior Awards, Graduation, Website/Technological Assistance, …

  • And, on a permanent basis, you participate fully by encouraging your teenager to take part in any aspect of BCCHS life: in the School Play; to sign up for the Talent Show or to perform or read something at Heritage Night; or to offer to be in an after-school clubs or peer-tutor in a subject-related help class.

  • And, last but not least, by coming to your child’s Sports games to cheer her/him from the sidelines, come rain, snow, sleet or sunshine!

If you would like a little more information about all of this, please call our Parent Coordinator at 646-660-6400 and leave a message for the PTA President. She will call/e-mail you as soon as humanly possible!

    Thank you.
