Baruch College Alumni Association

FAQ

1. When does membership begin each year?
The Membership year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30 of the following year.

2. Do I receive a membership card?
Yes, a paper card is mailed to all BCAA members upon receipt of payment. If you plan on using the Newman Library or the Athletic Recreational Center, you must exchange the paper card for a CUNY - BCAA photo identification card in person at Baruch's ID Center (located at 151 East 25th Street, Room 133). If you already have a photo ID, you can either go in person with the enclosed paper card or call the ID Center at 646-312-1475 to reactivate.

3. If I join late, is the fee prorated?
No, the fee is not currently prorated. We are however looking into the possibility of prorating and other membership fee alternatives such as longer membership periods etc.

4. What is the difference between BCF and BCAA?
The Baruch College Fund (BCF) sole function is fundraising from alumni, corporations, foundations and non-alumnus donators. We at BCAA provide services and opportunities to Baruch College alumni. The only money we seek from alumni are the membership fee of $45 per year and specific event fees when they occur. Alumni may decide on their own to give more than the membership fee in support of the association but that is entirely voluntary.

5. Does my membership fee go to the school?
No, it does not. While the BCAA and Baruch work closely together, the BCAA is completely separate legally. The $35 goes to the organizational costs of running the association and providing benefits and opportunities to alumni.

6. Do I have to be a member to use the GYM?
Yes, you have to be a currently paid member of the BCAA to use the new gym facilities after paying the gymnasium fee of $350 for BCAA members and an additional $250 for each immediate family member. Contact the Athletics & Recreation Complex at 212-802-2875 for more information.

7. Why do I have to pay more than my $45 BCAA fee to use the GYM?
The additional monies are required to maintain the quality of service at the gym. The gym is owned and run by the College and they established the fees which are extraordinarily competitive. BCAA members save $250 off the $600 fee that is charged to the outside community.
