1. When does membership begin each year?
The Membership year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30 of the following year. The BCAA also offers 18-month memberships that commences in January.
2. Do I receive a membership card in the mail?
No, a confirmation letter is mailed to all BCAA members upon receipt of payment. If you plan on using the Newman Library or the Athletic Recreational Center, you must exchange the confirmation letter for a CUNY - BCAA photo identification card in person at Baruch's ID Center (located at 151 East 25th Street, Room 133). If you already have a photo ID, you can either go in person with the enclosed confirmation letter or call the ID Center at 646-312-1475 to reactivate.
3. If I join late, is the fee prorated?
No, the fee is not currently prorated.
4. What is the difference between BCF and BCAA?
The Baruch College Fund (BCF) sole function is fundraising from alumni, corporations, foundations and non-alumnus donators. We at BCAA provide services and opportunities to Baruch College alumni. In addition, we contribute monetarily to the college in the forms of scholarships, awards and past annual financial gifts. The only money we seek from alumni are the membership fee of $45 per year and specific event fees when they occur. Alumni may decide on their own to give more than the membership fee in support of the association but that is entirely voluntary.
5. Does my membership fee go to the school?
No, it does not. While the BCAA and Baruch work closely together, the BCAA is a completely separate entity. The BCAA does, however, maintain its office within the 17 Lexington building of Baruch College and directly works with college administration. The $45 goes to the organizational costs of running the association, providing benefits and opportunities to alumni and helping support our philanthropic giving to the college when possible.
6. Do I have to be a member to take advantage of BCAA benefits and discounts?
Yes, you have to be a currently paid member of the BCAA to take advantage of most, but not all, membership discounts and benefits. For most alumni the modest membership fee cost is far outweighed by the benefits of becoming a member obtained through our various benefits and discounts. Furthermore, alumni membership means supporting BCAA's activities to further opportunities for Baruch College alumni and give back to our alma mater.
7. What is the BCAA's contact info and location?
The BCAA's office is conveniently located in Baruch College's 17 Lexington building on the 16th Floor (Room 1605). Our office phone is (646) 660-6080 or we may be reached via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
