THE BARUCH COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES A MAJOR GIFT

The Board of Directors of the Baruch College Alumni Association announced a pledge of $100,000 to support Baruch College’s Class Act campaign. Furthermore, The Starr Foundation will match BCAA’s gift with an additional $100,000 donation.

The Class Act campaign is designed to help provide access and opportunity to 15,700 Baruch College students. Gifts go directly to support scholarships, student career services, student activities and programs, The William and Anita Newman Library and faculty research. In return, benefactors are given the opportunity to name a classroom or other space at Baruch's
17-floor, award-winning William and Anita Newman Vertical Campus and the Information and Technology Building.

For over thirty-eight years, the members of the Baruch College Alumni Association have been partners in supporting the students, faculty and alumni of Baruch College. Edith W. Mackey, President of the Baruch College Alumni Association stated: “On behalf of our dedicated Board of Directors, volunteers and members, we are delighted to have this additional opportunity to further a distinguished legacy of alumni giving. One of the many rewards of a Baruch education is knowing how important it is to give back and make a difference whenever possible. I hope that this gift will inspire many more to join us”.

The Starr Foundation was established in 1955 by Cornelius Vander Starr, founder of American International Group, Inc. He died in 1968 at the age of 76, leaving his estate to the Foundation. Today the Starr Foundation has assets of approximately $3 billion and is one of the largest private foundations in the United States. In keeping with Mr. Starr's wishes the Foundation supports education, cultural institutions, medicine and healthcare, human needs, public policy, and the environment. In the 50 years since its establishment, the Foundation has given more than $1 billion to non-profit organizations in New York City.
