Scholarships

A large percentage of Baruch's student population is comprised of college students who come from ethnically diverse, lower-income, and immigrant families. Many of them are the first in their families to go to college. One of the most rewarding ways to help transform a student's life is to enhance her or his chances of completing a degree. Currently, the undergraduate tuition for New York State residents is $4,000 per year ($2,000 per semester). Including the cost of books and fees with adjustments due to inflation, the full cost for the academic year amounts to $5,000 to $6,000 (living expenses are additional).

Faculty Development

To provide the best students with an excellent education, Baruch College hires leading scholars and experts. Baruch encourages the faculty to maintain their life-long commitment to education by requiring them to develop skills in teaching and to participate in conferences within their chosen fields of study. Research Initiatives

At Baruch College, we recruit great faculty and researchers, and invest in College's labs, spaces, technology, and research materials they need to succeed. Research is conducted within all three academic schools and at the continuing education division. Interdisciplinary and specialized research projects are housed at the College 16 academic research centers, institutes and groups. Foundations are using the advances emerging from these research programs to develop innovative new solutions to business and social problems.

Endowed Chairs and Professorships

Endowed chairs are the hallmark of a great university and are the highest form of recognition in scholarship and teaching. Endowed chairs are full-time faculty or administrative positions that are held by individuals who have achieved an outstanding reputation in their fields.

Endowed chairs enable Baruch to offer market-rate salaries to individuals who are the best in their fields. This allows us to secure and sustain quality faculty in the face of stiff competition. It also allows us to offer innovative curriculums that are not dependent wholly on tuition or state dollars. By endowing a chair, you initiate a cycle of excellence: top faculty members attract excellent students, and these students attract recruiters who hire them. Successful students give back to the College, which helps Baruch to continue to strengthen its academic standing.

Library

The 1,450-seat William and Anita Newman Library provides the Baruch community with access to several hundred online databases through the Dow Jones News/Retrieval, LEXIS/NEXIS, and DIALOG services and to information resources in CD-ROM format, in addition to traditional holdings. Remote access to thousands of full-text journals, newspapers, and books, as well as a real-time Web-based reference desk, provides students with library access without geographic restriction and with greatly expanded service (in some cases 24-hours, seven days a week). The William and Anita Newman Library was named the top college library in the nation for 2003 by the Association of Research and College Libraries/American Library Association.

Technology and Computing

At Baruch College, technology is being used to facilitate-but not replace-traditional education. With students juggling jobs and families while pursuing a degree, the computer provides a tool for them to keep up with their studies and stay connected to the Baruch community. A recent survey indicated that 95% of Baruch students have a computer at home, the highest percentage of any of the City University of New York colleges. Baruch students' dedication to their studies, whether their study time is on or off campus, means that technology has to be kept on the cutting edge.
