Course Outline
Core Curriculum
Baruch offers three degrees: a Bachelor of Science (BS) through the School of Public Affairs, a Bachelor in the Arts (BA) through the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, and a Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) through the Zicklin School of Business. The major you eventually select will determine the school from which you get your degree.
Regardless of which school you join, you must complete Baruch's core curriculum. The core classes are broken into three groups called Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III. You do not have to complete the tiers in order: there are classes in Tier II that you can take before you have taken all the classes in Tier I. However, the classes with higher course numbers tend to have more "prerequisites."
A prerequisite is a class that you must pass before you can register for another related class.
Tier I
English 2100: Writing I (3 credits)
English 2150: Writing II (3 credits)
Com 1010: Speech Communication (3 credits)

A minor is an area of concentration with fewer credits than a major.

Once you have decided which major you are interested in, you must fill out the online form: Eligibility Review for your Major. If you are applying to the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, you must also meet with a faculty advisor to declare your major.
Withdrawing from Courses
Once you sign up for a class, you have the option to drop it for whatever reason. When you register for classes, consult the Baruch academic calendar to see the deadline to drop a class.
If you drop your class before the drop deadline, you will receive a W on your transcript. This will not have any effect on your GPA. However, if you have not dropped the class and the professor decides that you have not been showing up or completing your work, the professor can withdraw you from the class. You will then receive a WU grade on your transcript, which is equal to an F.
To drop a class, new freshmen, international students, students on academic probation, and students applying to drop all their courses for the semester must visit the Center for Academic Advisement to fill out a drop form. All other students may go directly to the Registrar's office to withdraw.
Reminders
Courses completed at other universities cannot be retaken at Baruch for credit.
Remember to bring the following things to your live orientation and registration session:
- All students should bring their most recent transcript and AP scores to registration.
- Students with passing grades in College Now courses should bring College Now transcripts to registration.
- Foreign students should bring proof of required immunizations.
