Students must maintain a certain minimum Grade Point Average based
on the number of credits earned:
- 0 - 12 credits - 1.50 cumulative GPA
- 13 - 24 credits - 1.75 cumulative GPA
- 25 credits or more - 2.00 cumulative GPA
Students will be placed on Grade Point Average Probation at the end
of the Spring semester if their cumulative GPA falls below the minimum
indicated above.
Students on probation must earn a GPA of 2.01 or higher for the
next academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) in order to remain
enrolled in the College. If not in attendance for both Fall
and Spring semesters, students who re-enter the College on probation
must meet the terms of probation for the term they were in attendance.
Students who fail to meet the terms of GPA probation will be dismissed
at the end of the Spring semester. Dismissal from the College is
permanent unless a written reinstatement appeal, made to the Committee
on Academic Standing of one of the College's three schools, is
successful.
If you have any grades of F, FIN, FAB, FPN, WF or WU, consider
repeating the course, whether it is a required course or not. If
you get a 'C' or better when you repeat the course, the failing
grade will not be calculated in your cumulative GPA. You may repeat
up to 16 credits of failing grades. For more information, please
see 'F' Grade Policy. It
is a good idea to see an advisor before registering for the same
course again.
Students on probation are urged to take advantage of the tutoring
services offered by the:
Student Academic Consulting Center (SACC) 2nd Floor, Room 116, Newman Vertical Campus (646) 312- 4830
While on Grade Point Average probation a student will be restricted
to no more than four courses (13 equated credits) each semester.
Students who have been reinstated by the Committee on Academic
Standing following dismissal will be restricted to no more than
two courses.
Grades of FIN, FAB, FPN, WU, or F are violations of probation
if they have not been removed from the cumulative GPA by the
repetition of the course with the grade of C or better.
Students who are on probation may not hold office in student government
or on publications, sit on College committees, or engage in varsity
sports; they are also advised to limit club activities.
The deadline for submitting appeals for reinstatement to the Committee
on Academic Standing in the appropriate school is November 1 for
the Spring semester and April 1 for the Fall semester. Students
must also file a reentry application with the Registrar's Office.
For more information about filing an appeal for reinstatement,
please see Appeals.
